“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” – Helen Keller
Regardless of where or who we are, life is difficult and scary. Some of the hardest decisions that we make can often relate to change. Many people will fear change so much that they lose out on opportunities. It scares individuals to the point they rather stay in a position that leaves them unhappy.
At Florida State University, Dr. Anders Ericsson said it best. He stated that motivation is the most substantial predictor of success. This can relate to anyone who is trying to lose weight, earn a degree or move up in a company. It does not matter what the ending goal is, but the people who work hard are the ones who will succeed.
Ryan Holmes, the CEO at HootSuite, wrote an article today called The Career Dilemma of When to Move On. He pointed out about leaving one’s position and moving on to a new project is never an easy decision. Making such a choice can leave anyone nervous as they enter into the business unknown.
He went on to say, “I believe successful people, by disposition, are built to think big. When a role no longer affords those opportunities, it might be best to leave it in capable hands and move on, whether you’re moving to a new role in the same company, or exiting to pursue a whole new path. Inertia is one of my worst fears.”
When passion and motivation drives one’s appetite, it is important to follow through. The longer one sits in a position that does not truly challenge, it will make the change more difficult. With that said, here is today’s mantra:
- I am not afraid of change.
- I am driven by passion and motivation.
- I am ready for new opportunities.
- I will not fear the business unknown.
