A few of my goals have changed for the year. In an earlier post, I wrote about going back to school for my MBA. I have decided to put this off, if I ever decide to go back. I owe way too much money for student loans to take on this challenge right now. I need to work on getting that debt down before accepting any large financial commitment.
My attention is now geared towards building on my skills within my current career. I received my review at the end of March. The goal set up for me at work is to learn CSS and HTML. I understand the basics of those languages, but I have much more to learn. Therefore, the question is where do I start to impress my boss?
I called the community college, but the classes they offer are too basic. I found another school, which focuses solely on teaching programming. It is a certification program, which came out to $10k. I am not in a position to take on a $10k commitment.
I spoke to a friend of mine who is a programmer. He recommended two books:
- Beginning HTML, XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript (Wrox Programmer to Programmer)
- Beginning CSS: Cascading Style Sheets for Web Design (Wrox Programmer to Programmer)
I received the two books in the mail. Since I am currently in the process of moving, I am not going to be able to start on them until next week. I am really excited to learn how to build a website from scratch.
It is going to be a huge accomplishment for me.
If anyone has suggestions, which would help me learn more about these topics, let me know. Any suggestions are much appreciated.
